Little bees into little holes
One of the simplest setups we return to again and again: a hive board with round holes and a small pot of bees. Children pick up one bee at a time and place it home. The play story writes itself.

Put the hive on a tray with the bees loose beside it.
Step 2: Send the bees home
Your child places one bee into each hole, counting as they go.

Tip the bees out and let them fly around the tray before going home again.
Step 4: Add a challenge
For older children, swap fingers for tongs.
